The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) is preparing to purchase a large-scale data storage system (DSS) via electronic auction. This is one of the largest purchases of this type in the last two years; It is estimated at 1.6 billion rubles. The purchased equipment will be used to staff the Federal Data Processing Center (FDC).
The media claim that a total of 7 billion rubles of funds will be allocated for the construction of the FDC in the period from 2021 to 2024. In the next few years, the Ministry of Internal Affairs will also receive 36.54 billion rubles for digital modernization and development of related infrastructure. Experts state that the level of server infrastructure in departments such as the Ministry of Interior is increasing by 15-20% annually, making storage purchases extremely necessary.
The media reported that since the beginning of 2022, six storage equipment purchases have been made for FDC, totaling about 3.5 billion rubles. Most of them included Chinese equipment such as Huawei servers and storage, but at the same time a piece of Russian equipment worth 320 million rubles was purchased. There are no restrictions on foreign equipment in the new purchase, so experts believe that this may include both domestic solutions such as Aerodisk and YADRO, as well as foreign options from Huawei and Lenovo.
