The deputy head of the Liberal Democratic Party State Duma, Boris Chernyshov, announced that he is working on a new bill that would allow Russians to delete their personal data from their databases. This bill is scheduled to be submitted to the State Duma at its autumn session.
This offer came due to the increasing number of cases of Russian personal data being leaked from private companies’ databases. Chernyshov also emphasized that at the moment there is practically no effective way for citizens to withdraw their consent to the processing and storage of personal information, thereby ensuring their own privacy in case of accidental leakage.
To simplify this process, Chernyshov proposes to create a state agency – the Ministry of Digital Development and Mass Media of the Russian Federation. The obligation to delete information at the request of citizens will be the responsibility of all private personal data operators. This will make the procedure more comfortable and transparent for everyone.
