According to SamMobile, Samsung finally has no plans to release the base Galaxy S26 under the Pro designation. Although specific details about what caused the delay in changing the name are not provided, they are also not very necessary.

Previous leaks about the Galaxy S26 made it clear that if it did launch as the S26 Pro, it would be purely for promotional reasons. The device will support features worthy of an entry-level model in the flagship family, but will not change its characteristics to become more powerful or aimed at professional users.

As soon as the first rumors about the supposed Galaxy S26 Pro surfaced, many fans criticized Samsung for trying to unnecessarily copy the iPhone recipe. Something that other brands have already done with much less modesty, as happened with Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max, but at least trying to offer something different from what Apple offers.

In the case of the Samsung Galaxy S26 Pro. this would be the name now. Therefore, it does not seem crazy that the company has reconsidered the possibility of changing the nomenclature of the line input version. Especially considering the recent rumors about the supposed cancellation of the S26 Edge.

After all, the Samsung Galaxy S26 won’t be a Pro

The rumored drop of the Pro name for the standard Galaxy S26 came to light just a day after the supposed drop of the name. S26 Edge. The second generation ultra-thin variant would have been canceled due to very poor sales of the S25 Edge.

Thus, the lineup that Samsung will unveil early next year will consist of the Galaxy S26, the S26+, which was reported to have disappeared in favor of the Edge, and the S26 Ultra.

As usual, the Korean firm is expected to unveil its new flagships in January next year. So there is still a lot of time ahead to learn more about its technical characteristics and potential benefits. There are already rumors that the base S26 could be equipped with an Exynos 2600 chip instead of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. If this is confirmed, this could be big disappointment for buyers.

In terms of design, the Galaxy S26 and the Ultra variant will remain quite the same as the previous generations. The top model will use a rear camera module similar to that of its smaller siblings, without placing each sensor independently. The only noticeable modification could be seen on the S26 Edge, which will presumably have a camera module that spans the entire width of the top third of the back cover. But if it really was cancelled, we wouldn’t see it materialize.
