A magnetic observatory is planned to be built on R/V Samoilovsky Island in Yakutia. This station has been working on permafrost for ten years. It will now be used for unique studies of the north magnetic pole heading towards Russia’s Arctic coast.
Scientists believe the station should operate year-round and conduct magnetic surveys. This will require the creation of a magnetic observatory and a carbon range at the station. This will allow for a more in-depth study of the north magnetic pole, its motion, and its impact on the North Pole.
IPGG SB RAS developed a program for the development of the station for five years. Plans include the construction and renovation of new pavilions for the magnetic observatory. The scientists also plan to conduct applied research in the Arctic in renewable energy, materials science and geotechnical monitoring. These efforts will be supported by government subsidies, including the purchase of fuel and replacement of diesel generator sets.
