The Kankakee County plant will create 2,600 jobs and be “the most significant new manufacturing investment project in the state of Illinois in decades,” according to Governor J.B. Pritzker.

The facility, which will specialize in the production of lithium-ion battery cells, battery packs and energy storage systems, received $536 million from government incentives. Illinois is trying to position itself as a hub for the development of a variety of new technologies, including electric vehicle (EV) production.

The government offers incentives to attract electric vehicle and battery projects under the Inflation Reduction Act.
