Google will pay $93 million as part of a settlement in a lawsuit alleging it collected user location data without their consent. The Guardian writes about this.

Google will pay $93 million to monitor user movements

California State Attorney Rob Bonta filed charges against the company. He notes that Google has promised to stop tracking users’ movements; To do this, they must disable the “Location History” feature in their account settings.

At the same time, Bonta claims, the company continues to collect data even after disabling the functionality, which he believes is unacceptable.

At the same time, the corporation uses other surveillance tools if users have disabled “Location History.” In particular, Google monitors your activity on the web and in apps.

The company itself did not admit guilt in the lawsuit, but agreed to talk in more detail about the methods of collecting geographic data.

Last year, Google already faced a similar lawsuit in the United States. Then a settlement agreement was also concluded, according to which the corporation had to pay about $392 million to 40 states.
