According to Mandiant, 10 “zero days” were recorded in September alone, compared to 60 in the first eight months of this year. This growth is significantly higher than the monthly average of 2023. Affected apps include iOS and macOS, Windows, Chrome, Firefox, Acrobat and Reader, Atlas VPN, and Cisco’s Adaptive Security Appliance and Firepower Threat Defense software.
The widespread vulnerability, known as CVE-2023-4863, affects hundreds of applications and lies in the widely used libwebp code library developed by Google. It has the potential to affect a wide range of services and is currently being examined closely.
Considering that 70 security vulnerabilities were discovered this year and 81 of them were recorded in 2021, we have a high chance of breaking this record.
