Skyeng got into a scandal due to a post advertising online courses. He represents a soldier who supposedly asks to study in order to receive a foreign offer and leave Russia. Skyeng has already apologized, but the publication was seen in the State Duma: they were going to start checks.

Skyeng got into a scandal for advertising online courses with the image of a soldier

The Skyeng online school is at the center of a scandal due to an advertising post. The photo shows a soldier asking to learn “English + computer science” in order to receive a “foreign offer.”

State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein drew attention to the announcement. He called the announcement “dubious.”

“It reads like this: while your friends are fighting, learn English, get a foreign offer and leave Russia. It is true that for some reason in the photo there is a man in a military uniform similar to the American one,” Khinshtein wrote on his Telegram channel.

After a wave of criticism, Skyeng apologized: the company called the publication “inappropriate creativity” from an advertising agency that published an ad without its knowledge.

“Our team considers the incident unacceptable and apologizes for the imperfection of processes within the company. What happened became a lesson for us for the future,” Skyeng told RB.RU.

The post has since been deleted and work with this agency has stopped, Skyeng reported.
