The camera is powerful – 300 megapixels. Observations will be made in the visible and near-infrared ranges, and the field of view of this camera is 100-200 times larger than the field of view of the cameras of one of the most powerful Hubble telescopes. After assembly, the WFI will be sent for testing in artificial space.
Integration of the camera with the Rome telescope is expected in 2024, and NASA’s newest observatory will be launched into space aboard the Falcon Heavy carrier in 2027.
