Telegram has changed its ranking when searching for public channels and groups

Previously, public channels with a large number of subscribers appeared higher in searches, but this is increasingly being abused by spammers. Therefore, now the Messenger only takes into account “real subscribers” for ranking and also takes into account the country of the user.

For example, channels with more Premium subscribers “tend to rank higher.” However, if a Premium user subscribes to too many channels, it will not improve their search ranking much.

Pavel Durov also noted that reviews of this change are overwhelmingly positive.

  • Telegram officially launched the paid subscription in June 2022. Includes double limit, file download up to 4 GB, translation of voice messages to text, no advertising, exclusive stickers, reactions, advanced dialogue management, priority when downloading files, icon subscriber and more.
