Russia has become the main supplier of gold to the United Arab Emirates. In 2022, 96.4 tons of Russian gold were shipped to the Emirates, 15 times more than the previous year. 96.4 tons is a third of Russia’s annual gold production.
At the end of 2022, Russia supplied 96.4 tons of gold to the United Arab Emirates, 15 times more than in 2021. Bloomberg reported on this, noting that last year Russia became a key supplier of gold to the Emirates.
The supply of Russian gold to the United Arab Emirates is equivalent to a third of its annual production in Russia, the agency clarified.
The main buyer of gold in the United Arab Emirates in 2022 was Switzerland with 145 tons. The European Union banned gold purchases from Russia in July 2023.
According to Bloomberg, before the start of the special operation in Ukraine, Russian gold was mainly sold to the United Kingdom.
