The Brazilian online school Mentorama, which belongs to the Russian online university Skillbox, has suspended its development in the region. Forbes reports this based on market sources.

Skillbox has suspended business development in Brazil

A former senior executive at the company told the publication that Mentorama has had no operations in the country since July 2023 and has laid off all sales employees. During the same period, the school stopped updating social networks, RB.RU is convinced.

It is noted that the company reached a compromise with the students, so the online platform continues to function. However, no details of the agreement are provided.

The co-founder of another Brazilian online school, EBAC Online, Alexander Avramov, confirmed that Mentorama froze its operations several months ago and is only working to support current students. Avrmaov suggested that the school suspend operations because it was unprofitable and could not grow or become profitable.

Jorge Silva, a business localization specialist and former employee of the Brazilian divisions of Yandex Practice (now TripleTen) and the EdTech platform GetCourse, also knows that Mentorama suspended development and laid off some of its employees in the region. One reason, he said, is financial difficulties: Students find it difficult to get installment plans from banks and pay for courses.

“The Mentorama company continues its activities in the Brazilian market: the main goal is to provide students with high-quality education in accordance with the program,” a representative of the Skillbox press service told RB.RU.

Mentorama was founded by Skillbox shareholder Anton Vinogradov together with partners in 2020 in Brazil. In October 2021, Skillbox bought 90% of the startup for an undisclosed amount.
