While the company’s previous Just Walk Out system used complex cameras and sensors, RFID technology offers a simpler, more cost-effective approach for businesses looking to implement a cashierless system. Amazon tested its RFID system and reported an increase in customers and transactions using this simplified approach.

Although Amazon has deemphasized physical retail stores, it continues to solve real-world shopping problems and is trying to capture valuable customer data with innovations such as RFID-enabled, checkout-free shopping.
