The social network Odnoklassniki has published a series of video wishes with translation into sign language so that users can know what words of gratitude and other common phrases in sign language are like. The company implemented the project together with the educational platform for the hearing impaired Surdoclass on the occasion of the International Day of Sign Languages on September 23.
The idea of the project is to draw attention to the rights of people with hearing disabilities and to familiarize people with the meaning of sign languages. Users of the social network will learn what the phrases are: “Love is above all”, “I give tenderness and warmth”, “Do good deeds”, “May this day bring good luck”, “You are the best”, “ Smile more often” and others seem.
According to the founder of Surdoclass, Vasily Kosarev, about 13 million deaf and hard of hearing citizens live in the country today. According to statistics, per specialist there are 100 thousand people with hearing loss.
“The goal of our project is to create a large number of educational materials adapted for deaf people, as well as to popularize the study of sign language. And we hope that the International Day of Sign Languages project will help draw attention to this work,” Kosarev said.
This is not the company’s first project designed to draw attention to issues of inclusion. Previously, the social network made the platform accessible to blind users.
