Carmack said that although no one sees a concrete way to solve this problem right now, there’s not much left to do.
At the same event, it was announced that Carmack would hire leading artificial intelligence scientist Richard Sutton, whom he calls the “founding father of reinforcement learning,” to work on AGI startup Keen.
Sutton expressed optimism about creating AI using modern technology and suggested there could be “an AI prototype showing signs of life” by 2030.
The former president of id Software also noted that OpenAI chief Sam Altman tried to hire him despite Carmack’s lack of experience in artificial intelligence. Despite his rejection, he still remained interested in technology.
