Speaker manufacturer JBL lost in a Russian court against domestic audio system manufacturer Drivix in a patent rights case. Drivix produces speakers under the Vipe brand; Harman demanded compensation for patent infringement and the release of music centers similar in appearance and characteristics.
The Court of Intellectual Rights annulled the decision of the court of first instance and sent to a new trial the case on the protection of patent rights between the Russian representative office of the American company Harman and the Russian company Drivix, which produces audio systems with the Vipe brand. Information about this is reflected in the file of court cases.
“The decision of the Moscow Arbitration Court of January 31, 2023 in case No. A40-113531/2022 and the decision of the Court of Appeal of the Ninth Arbitration of April 28, 2023 in the same case are annulled. Send case No. A40-113531/2022 to the Moscow Arbitration Court for a new trial,” the court’s decision says.
In August, Harman sued Drivix and several other Russian companies for patent infringement. Harman demanded compensation of 5 million rubles for the fact that companies, in particular Drivix, produced speakers similar in appearance and characteristics to those produced by Harman.

“The Harman case showed us the importance of working with patents and the opportunities that can arise by investing in our own development and industrial design. Today we patent all our own developments,” said Drivix CEO Andrey Kotov.
Harman previously attempted to seek compensation through the court for a similar charge. The lawsuit was filed in 2021, but the court left it without consideration.
