Thailand allowed to extend the visa-free regime for Russians to 90 days

Thai authorities are considering extending the visa-free regime for Russian citizens several times. This was reported to TASS by the Russian ambassador to Thailand, Evgeny Tomikhin.

According to Tomikhin, the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the consideration of this idea and “there must be a decision” on the matter.

“I think this is probably good for our tourists, since 90 days is better than 30,” Tomikhin said.

Since the beginning of 2023, 977 thousand tourists from Russia have visited Thailand. At the end of 2022, the flow of Russian tourists to Thailand increased 14 times compared to 2021.

According to the forecasts of the Thai authorities, the kingdom will receive 28 million foreign tourists in 2023.

Tourism in Thailand is one of the main sources of income for the state: the share of the tourism industry in Thailand’s GDP, according to the latest data, is 20%.
