Google releases new Gmail rules to combat spam and prevent fraud

Google has created new policies to reduce spam circulation in Gmail. The rules will apply to bulk senders who send more than 5,000 messages per day. From February 2024.

The purpose of the measure is to control the spread of junk emails and make life easier for Gmail users. Check out all of Google’s requirements below.

• Easy unsubscribe: Large bulk senders should allow recipients to unsubscribe with just one click. The transaction must be completed within two days at most;
• Sender authentication: Message triggers must authenticate their accounts with important anti-spoofing authentication best practices;
• Lower spam rate: Google will impose a clear spam rate limit on mass mailers.

New internet standard

According to Google, it’s not the only company that has established stricter enforcement rules against mass shootings. “No matter your email provider, all users deserve the most secure experience possible,” said Yahoo Chief Product Officer Marcel Becker. “In the world of interconnected email, this requires all of us to work together,” he added.

Google states that such practices should be considered “basic hygiene” for emails and Most bulk senders already meet the requirements. The company offers a guide that will make it easier to comply with the new standards.

For the average user nothing needs to be changed. Unless the account is used for commercial purposes, it is unlikely that a consumer will be responsible for sending more than 5,000 messages in a single day.

In this case, Google’s new rules it should only add improvements to usability. When the policies come into force in February, the amount of spam will decrease, scams will be more easily detected and unsubscribing from junk communication channels will become easier.
