Every year, short videos shot on a smartphone are becoming popular. This format is now used in all social networks, and people can spend hours scrolling through the feed with videos.

It would seem that everyone is happy. But except for the authors. After all, making an interesting short video is not an easy task, because you need to hold the viewer’s attention and make sure that he watches the video to the end.

One way to do this is through unusual photography. German blogger Mirko, better known under the nickname @nordic_scott on TikTok and Instagram*, can help with this.

Currently, Mirko’s TikTok has 2.7 million subscribers and 28.8 million likes, and 2.3 million people follow him on Instagram*.

He became popular due to the fact that his videos present various life hacks for taking photos and videos, and immediately show how they can be applied in real life.

At first, these tips related to a regular camera, and later Mirko switched to smartphones.

1. Shoot videos from different angles.

Sing, to get an interesting shot, you just need to turn your smartphone over and put it on the ground. The support can be a water bottle or a bag.

To take pictures in the car, you can place the smartphone between the mirror and the pillar, on the passenger door card or on the side of the car and lean it on the windshield.

You can store your smartphone anywhere indoors, as long as the angle is unusual. You can even use a hair tie to secure your phone to the curtain.

An unusual shooting angle is immediately popular among hundreds of others, because people, as a rule, do not bother themselves that much.

2. Don’t shoot while standing in one place.

Another simple, but at the same time applicable, technique is the use of frames from different angles. In this case, you can’t do without a video editor, but the final result will definitely look interesting.

One video can have as many angles as you like, and the more there are, the better.. Such a video will look cooler than a video shot from one place.

In this case, the first tip can come in handy, because alternating unusual shots from different angles is a win-win option.

3. Shoot on any smartphone camera.

If a smartphone has two or more cameras, then, of course, they all need to be used if the ultra-wide and telephoto cameras provide good quality.

A super angle camera can come in handy when there needs to be a lot of detail in the frame. On the other hand, it will be useful both in small spaces and on wide streets.

A telephoto camera can help when you need to find a suitable object, a smartphone, that can be brought closer. It also offers 48mm and 77mm focal lengths, which look more interesting than the standard 24mm in some scenes.

You can and should also use additional modes for video shooting. For example, the iPhone has a Cinema effect that blurs the background of a video, just like a professional camera.

Always shoot in 4K whenever possible (the number of FPS does not matter). High resolution not only makes the image visually better, including for social networks, but also allows you to get the object without any significant loss of quality.

4. Think over the video script in advance.

This tip cannot be applied to spontaneous videos, but it is suitable for planned videos.

For example, you are going on a trip and want to make a video about it. You can think in advance about what places and from what angles you need to shoot. Make a checklist if you like.

A detailed plan will help you remember to film this or that object, and you will also know exactly what fragments you need to create the final video.

5. Natural colors look best in videos.

If we follow all the above tips, then it will be impossible to get the final video without a video editor.

At a minimum, you need to put the videos in the correct order. And not always in chronological order. Sometimes it’s better to alternate videos between each other to get extra speakers..

If you wish, you can also work with money yourself, but without fanaticism. You are unlikely to be able to professionally color a video from your phone without the need for software or knowledge, but it is always possible to overdo it with the colorist.

Don’t play too much with lighting and color correction if you like the source material. As a last resort, it is better to trust automation. For example, the standard Photo application can independently apply all the necessary settings to improve the video.

Always experiment

Micro’s lifehacks prove that any video, even the simplest one, can be made interesting using the above tips.

Non-standard angles, versatility, unusual transitions and simple processing can help create a popular video. All these techniques do not have to be used together; they can be used separately.

And if you constantly practice, then most likely you will find other tricks for your videos.
