Starshield’s official website states that it will perform three main missions: Earth observation, communications, and hosting complex customer payloads. This versatility means a wide range of possible vehicles and mission types.
Compared to standard Starlink satellites, Starshield will have advanced cybersecurity capabilities, including cryptographic capabilities to host classified payloads and secure data processing to meet stringent government requirements.
In addition, these satellites will interact with existing Starlink satellites via laser communications systems, expanding Starshield’s range and capabilities as part of the Pentagon’s collaboration to create this military-focused constellation.
