Each of these categories is noticeably different from the others and has significant coverage among the world’s population:

  • Casual users (14.86%): Go online for specific tasks and leave quickly.
  • Beginner users (22.86%): They often spend more time on the Internet than planned and sometimes forget about daily matters.
  • Experimenters (21.98%): They feel restless or anxious when not connected to the Internet.
  • Addicts in Denial (17.96%): They show signs of addiction, such as starting new relationships on the Internet, but they do not admit their addiction.
  • Addicts (22.36%): They openly admit their internet addiction and are aware of its negative impact on their lives.

To create this classification, researchers analyzed the Internet behavior of 796 people. It was revealed that young people (under the age of 24) spend an average of six hours a day on the internet, mostly using smartphones.

The older generation (over 24) spends an average of 4.6 hours a day online. Scientists did not find a link between gender and internet addiction.
