Rosstat predicted a reduction in Russia’s population by 3 million people by 2030. The department’s forecast does not take into account residents of the “new regions.” The country’s population will decrease due to a decrease in the birth rate and an increase in the number of retirees.
The population of Russia, excluding residents of the “new regions”, may decrease by 3 million people by 2030. Rosstat reported this in its report, RBC reports.
At the beginning of this year, 146.4 million people lived in Russia. If Rosstat’s forecast is fulfilled, the country’s population will decrease to 143.2 million people by 2030, excluding residents of the “new regions.” These regions are the LPR, the DPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson.
If the department’s assumption comes true, then Russia’s population in 2030 will fall to its lowest level since 2012. Rosstat noted that the number of residents in the Russian Federation is decreasing against the background of a declining birth rate and increase in the number of older people.
