Immediately after the official release of the new operating system, I installed macOS Sonoma on my MacBook Air M2. The update was successful, new wallpapers, dynamic screensavers and other new “goodies” appeared, about which you can read more in our review of all innovations.

While learning everything new, I didn’t immediately notice that using a MacBook had somehow become less comfortable. Out of habit, I bring it to the corner of the screen to quickly open this or that application, nothing happens. It turns out that after an update to macOS Sonoma, the “Active Turns” feature returned to its original state, that is, it was disabled.

I’ll tell you how to return one of the most useful features of macOS when The screen envelopes turn into active zones that, when observed, open various applications..

Four active corners are convenient

Where to find the result “Active angles”: Settings – Desktop and Dock – Active Corners..

The menu that appears has four drop-down lists of actions that you can select to activate when you maintain contact with one of the corners of the screen.

It is recommended that you first tackle some corner of the Launchpad application menu. On old MacBooks, behind this menu, one of the buttons in the top rows F1-F12 is checked, but on my Air there is no such luxury. Yes, you can customize different buttons, but simply holding them up to the cabinet screen is much easier and doesn’t require you to remember anything.

On the other three corners you can set the trigger to be optional:

🔹 Mission Control – displays thumbnails of all open applications and desktops.
🔹 Program windows – displays all open windows of one application.
🔹 Desktop – display the desktop, minimize all open applications.
🔹 Status Center – displays all protocols from social networks, mail services and external applications.
🔹 Short Note – record a text note without opening the application.
🔹 Lock screen – go to the welcome screen with input
🔹 Start or disable the screensaver – starts or stops the screensaver.
🔹 Put the monitor into sleep mode – turn off the screen

Unfortunately, as with previous macOS, there is no way to configure additional programs to launch. I continue to believe in future versions of Sonoma, users will think of allowing this action. However, the active corners feature is useful for any job.

So, if you don’t use this useful feature yet, didn’t know about it, or it was disabled after an OS update, set it up and enjoy. Really convenient.
