I watched The Great Equalizer 3. The mafia wakes up, the look falls asleep

There has been a digital release of the new part of “The Great Equalizer” with Denzel Washington in the main video.

This is the third film in the series, and it is different from the previous ones. Even on the premise, the films had mixed reviews, and in the first week the box office began to move quickly.

Many viewers were waiting for the final part of the film trilogy. Mainly thanks to the successful original film, which created a not-so-typical action movie about an intelligent and well-read fighter seeking justice.

What happened now? We have already watched the new product and will hasten to share our impressions.

Instead of a movie I watched dreams

Of course, this is an exaggeration, but the essence is clear.

What is the movie about: Having finished his job as a secret agent, Robert McCall continues to gradually increase the truth in everyday life and protect those who need it.

While in Southern Italy, he discovers that his friends have fallen under the influence of local criminal facts. As events escalate, McCall decides to take up the defense of justice by entering into negotiations with the mob.

What is “The Great Leveler” to you? For me, this is a strong action movie in the style of old films, where chaos and cruelty reign. She emphasized action in previous films, adding some kind of zest or something spectacular and memorable.

This element always matters, at least a third of the timing.

And what does the new part meet us in 105 minutes? A total of 15 minutes of battles and 1.5 minutes of brutal war. Calling this picture an action movie doesn’t change the language, although it has all the necessary components. However, in this case we have a heavy drama with action elements, and not vice versa.

Washington’s character spends most of the film just walking around and enjoying life. He seems to have found a place to finally retire. And this seems quite logical for creating a trilogy, but why pay so much attention to it? Walking, admiring the scenery and drinking coffee accounts for a good third (if not half) of the picture.

The first films had memorable scenes, like a showdown in a store or a fighter during a hurricane. And here? There’s nothing even close to that here. The only thing that looked impressive was the opening scene with shooting through the eye. That’s it: we remembered 5 seconds of action from the entire film.

The plot turned out to be quite simple and rests on a bunch of conventions. It is clear that Robert McCall is a former special agent and has his own connections, but the search for important information cannot be left to that extent.

He learns everything from the translator, and just as easily refers to the stage with this information. And at the same time, not a single character has any logical questions about where he found out what and how (many new characters vaguely represent the protagonist’s past).

In the best tradition of action films, you already know from the very beginning how it will end. The main secret is how the authors come to this. But they failed here too, extending the film with constant exposition.

Moral issues are also revealed mediocre. We are told directly that Robert does not consider himself good or bad, he does not know the answer to this question. And here it would be possible to reveal the logic of his actions, but at this moment they decided to omit it.

However, the story could still logically end. Many questions remain unanswered, but this is not so bad. In action films, plot has never played a particularly important role.

The picture is beautiful, but you can’t turn the observer behind it

Cinematographer Robert Richardson often captures stunning images. He is especially skillful in operating an electric stove in the narrow streets of Italian cities.

A lot of attention is paid here to demonstrating beautiful views and impressive angles. Sometimes directors come up with something truly unexpected for this film, but generally standard for the industry.

Yes, it’s interesting to watch, but… Half of the document consists of Italian speech. It sounds like it should. But damn it I came watch a movie instead of reading a book.

I understand that this way you get the best flavor of the local environment, and you get a better feel for the atmosphere of Italy. But why does untranslated speech take so long? At first I made a mistake when duplicating, but then I listened to the original and realized that the problem was not translated into Russian.

There are too many subtitles for fast-paced scenes, which means you don’t really enjoy the picture.

Passing movie. Watch only for fans

And fans will have a hard time watching The Great Equalizer 3. It’s boring, drawn out and minimally violent – not at all the kind of film we asked for it to be.

If you just want to know how Robert McCauley’s story ends, you can turn on the last 20-30 minutes. There is almost no good action movie here. Minimum at the beginning, a little in the middle and almost no ending.

I don’t think this picture is worth looking at apart from the external parts either. Numerous references to them are present and need to be seen.

There are good moments in the film, but they are few. But what was the potential… To watch or not – this decision remains in any case with the viewer, but I personally am tired of this film and I repeat I will definitely never watch it again.
