Roskomnadzor (RKN) completed the investigation after reports in the media and social networks about a possible data leak from MTS Bank customers. The investigation confirmed that a data breach had occurred.
Roskomnadzor has prepared an administrative protocol on violation of the legislation on personal data protection and will submit it to the court. MTS Bank may face a fine of 60 thousand to 100 thousand rubles.
In September, a database of MTS Bank customers began to spread on Telegram, and attackers allegedly gained access to the data of 21 million people. It contained general customer data, partial card numbers and email addresses. The bank claimed that the banking compromise leak was not verified and did not allow the attackers to make financial transactions on behalf of the bank’s customers.
