Discord announced New security features to protect minors’ experience and keep users in line. The mechanisms introduced this Thursday (19) allow users to be aware of the rules of the platform and avoid unwanted contact from strangers.
The first feature Discord introduced was “Teen Safety Assist”. The feature suite consists of a number of filters and “proactive alerts” that are enabled by default on user accounts under the age of 18.
One of these filters is “Security Alert for Senders”: Discord will issue a security alert the first time a user receives a direct message from someone.. The recipient will be advised to check the nature of the communication and if they find that chatting is not a good idea, they will provide links to block the sender and check out more security tips.
Another aspect of security assistance is sensitive content filters. The function hides potentially sensitive media in direct messages, groups or servers by default on underage accounts. Blurring represents a sort of “additional step” to encourage teens to be careful when viewing content.
Pay attention to the rules
Discord has implemented an “Alert System” to strengthen the platform’s standards. The feature pack makes the community rules more accessible and understandable, as well as making the platform more transparent.
If the user violates one of Discord’s rules, the platform contacts the user via direct message providing details about the abuse. The text warns of the warning and violation and explains whether any action will be taken by the service. In the same message, Discord also provides links to a page detailing the violating post, actions taken, and account restrictions.
Finally, There is a new tab called “Account Status” in the Settings section that shows violations made. In this way, the user can be informed of previous warnings and prevent these warnings from recurring in the future.
Gradual application
According to Discord, all security news will be gradually implemented throughout 2024. The company did not give an exact date for the addition of the features and when it will come to Brazil.
