In Russia, since 2021, 167 VPN services and more than 590 thousand information resources have been blocked, according to data from the Center for Monitoring and Management of the Public Communications Network (TsMU SSOP).
As part of the fight against threats to the security and stability of the Runet in Russia, the following were blocked or limited: 167 VPN services, more than 590 thousand information resources, more than 200 email services, more than 2 thousand phishing sites , more than 80 applications and more than 20 malware distribution centers.
At the same time, about 17.5 thousand IP addresses were included in the “white list” and excluded from filtering.
Providing access to information prohibited in the Russian Federation was previously included in the list of threats to the stability and security of the Runet.
TsMU SSOP was created on the basis of the “Main Radio Frequency Center” subordinate to Roskomnadzor as part of the implementation of the law on sovereign RuNet.
- In early October it became known that Roskomnadzor would issue an order according to which, starting in March 2024, VPN services would be blocked in all application stores, including the Play Market and App Store, if they provided citizens with access to blocked resources. .
- Previously, the VPN provider HideMy.name decided to challenge the blocking and filed a lawsuit against Roskomnadzor demanding the removal of the block, which was carried out without being included in the register of banned sites.
