Park Yong-in, head of the company’s sensors division, confirmed this Thursday (26) that Samsung mobile phones can use satellite emergency services. He did not specify which model the function will launch on, but it is possible that the Galaxy S24 will be the first to receive this function.

The announcement took place during Semiconductor Expo 2023. According to the manager, technical preparations for activating the feature have been completed. Yong-in was probably referring to the Exynos 5300 modem, a component that can handle two-way satellite communications offered alongside the Exynos 2200.

With technology, Users will be able to send and receive messages such as location via satellite. Therefore, it will be possible to contact authorities or other people from anywhere, even if there is no internet connection or phone line; This is important for reporting accidents or helping find missing people.

It would not be a surprise if Samsung actually implements satellite communication in its 2024 flagships. Apple, one of the manufacturer’s main competitors, introduced a similar feature in the iPhone 14.

New Galaxy S24 feature?

However, Yong-in’s statement There is no confirmation that the Galaxy S24 will be the first device to get the new feature. Since the new feature is exclusive to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, it may not be available across the entire series.

The Galaxy S24 doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet, but the high-end handset is expected to launch in January next year. It is supposed to be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, and the Ultra version can be sold with up to 2 TB of storage.
