The Public Interest Research Group (PIRG) has launched a petition to Microsoft, urging the company to reconsider its plans to end support for Windows 10.
Current estimates suggest that approximately 400 million computers cannot be upgraded to Windows 11. The petition, sent to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, criticizes the company’s plans and points out that consumers expect long-term performance rather than obsolescence of their devices. due to an arbitrary decision.
PIRG warns that disposing of so much equipment in landfills is contrary to the company’s environmental stance.
“All software reaches a point where it is no longer supported, but we should not accept this when the environmental consequences are this great,” the petition reads.
While Windows 10 is compatible with computers running older operating systems, Microsoft has imposed hardware requirements for Windows 11 that have caused even machines that are several years old to be unable to be updated.
