How is this possible? According to Professor Schultz, the flu vaccine reduces the immune system’s response to amyloid plaques, a protein found in the brain. People with Alzheimer’s disease have abnormally high levels of amyloid plaques.
Too much amyloid protein in the brain can trigger an immune response that causes brain cells to die. This contributes to the development of dementia.
Professor Schultz has another theory about how the flu vaccine could reduce the chance of developing Alzheimer’s disease. It is possible that this vaccine may increase the immune system’s ability to clear excess amyloid plaques. This causes less inflammation and less brain cell loss.
