Apple has reduced the memory bandwidth of the M3 Pro processor by 25% compared to the M1/M2 Pro.
The specifications for the new MacBook Pro state that the M3 Pro’s memory bandwidth is 150 GB/s. In M1/M2 Pro this figure reaches 200 GB/s.
The base M3 Max chip with a 14-core CPU and 30-core graphics has 300 GB/s memory bandwidth, while the M3 Max with a 16-core CPU and 40-core graphics has 400 GB/s.
In this version, all M2 Max chips have 400 GB/s bandwidth.
Why Apple decided to change the specifications is unknown. How they will happen at the first show will become known on November 7, when the new MacBook Pro goes on sale.
