The Central Bank is thinking about developing a unique QR code to pay for goods and services. Now, using this technology, you can pay not only through the Fast Payment System of the Central Bank, but also in the Sberbank application.

The Central Bank proposed developing a unique QR code to pay for all purchases

According to the first vice president of the Central Bank, Olga Skorobogatova, users often encounter confusion when choosing a payment. The Central Bank is considering a scheme where the consumer will be able to select in advance the account from which the funds will be debited and the QR code will be uniform.

“The most important thing is that the person chooses himself and that no one, neither banks nor associations, confuse him when choosing the payment method,” Skorobogatova said at the Finopolis forum, as quoted by RBC.

He stressed that the creation of a unified QR code is one of the tasks of the Bank of Russia “this year.” Otherwise, people will have 15 to 20 different QR codes, making cashless transactions inconvenient.

It will take about three months for the regulator to develop a mechanism to create a unique QR code. The National Payment Card System and banks will participate in the development of the issue.
