This is an artificial intelligence-based platform that can analyze up to 8 billion posts on social networks daily.

Zignal Labs uses ML algorithms to monitor and identify suspicious messages in real time. The received data is transferred to the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) department, which deals with analytics and criminal investigation.

According to Jacobin, the same system is also used by the Pentagon and the Israeli army. ICE also uses other surveillance tools. For example, ShadowDragon for tracking online activities and Babel X for linking social profiles with geolocation and personal data.

The ACLU had already criticized the project, saying such systems turned into “black boxes” that threatened the right to privacy and freedom of expression.

Despite this, authorities argue that AI monitoring is necessary to improve the efficiency of deportations and fight crime.
