Freedom Finance Global analyst Vladimir Chernov suggested that, taking inflation into account, Ozon’s investments in infrastructure in Uzbekistan could easily reach $150 million, while Wildberries allocated $130 million for the creation of a logistics complex in Tashkent in November 2022.

Financial expert and author of Telegram’s “Economism” channel Alexey Krichevsky, commenting on Ozon’s entry into the Uzbekistan market, noted that it is too early to talk about how quickly the market will overtake Wildberries. In his opinion, we must wait for the first results of the investments and examine the development plans in this state.

However, there is no denying that this is serious competition, Krichevsky believes. “In addition, Ozon has made operational profits and can now allocate additional funds to development, advertising and opening new markets, which is what the company is really doing,” he concluded.

In August 2023, representatives of Ozon and the Uzchamrsanoat association discussed the opening of a logistics center in Uzbekistan. Through it, Uzbek textiles, footwear and leather goods will be sold. Marketplace will become the second Russian e-commerce company to create a logistics center in the republic. Previously, Wildberries opened a logistics and sorting complex in Tashkent, as well as a logistics center in the Fergana region.

In this sense, Modulbank’s market director, Irina Maksyuta, considered that it is a logical step to check the demand for Ozon products. In her words, the presence of the market in the region will allow the country’s business representatives to interact more easily and quickly with the platform, reduce their own logistics costs and expand the range of local products.

Previously, Ozon entered the Kazakhstan market. The company has launched two logistics centers in this country. The first is in February 2023, the second in May. The marketplace also launched a business in Kyrgyzstan and in July Ozon entered the Armenian market. Since 2021, the company operates in Belarus.
