A privacy expert has filed a criminal complaint against YouTube for using scripts that detect and limit ad blockers on the platform.

According to information published by The Register, privacy consultant Alexander Hanff has filed a complaint against YouTube under Ireland’s Computer Misuse Act.

Hanff claims that Google’s video service uses illegal tracking scripts to detect ad blockers, which amounts to spying on EU citizens.

He also sued the Irish Data Protection Commission against YouTube’s screening system that detects ad blockers.

Let’s remember that it all started when YouTube recently implemented a globally unpopular policy of blocking users who use ad blockers unless they opt out or subscribe to YouTube Premium.
