The consequences are not a modern phenomenon, although they may seem so. In fact, what is considered cinema’s first great film immediately had a sequel. The film The Birth of a Nation, directed by D. W. Griffith and released in 1915, details how the United States began its journey to becoming the most powerful nation in the world. But curiously, the book The Fall of a Nation, published the following year, describes the first manifestations of corruption in the ambitious national project. While both can be watched separately and independently, together they provide a complete cinematic experience.
The same can be said about such works as Godfather II, Aliens: Return And Terminator 2: Judgment Day. All of them are part of universes that marked milestones in the development of entertainment cinema. But by continuing the stories, they not only improve the original experience, but also deepen it. The success of the space means that many unforgettable stories have the opportunity to expand their narrative to another level. Even starting sagas and franchises that span several different dimensions from the original. This allows us to take a fresh look at cinema as an ever-growing medium.
We leave you with seven sequels that will hit the big screen this year. From continuing the controversial point of view of a traditional villain to a new chapter of an eighties classic. The sequels, set to premiere in 2024, cover all genres and characters. A tour of the best modern cinema.
Joker: Folie à Deux, October 4, 2024
The first installment, released in 2019, was a box office and critical success, but it also hinted at being a standalone story. So it was surprising that its director, Todd Phillips, took the step to provide a second part of the original idea. Especially when he announced that it would be a musical. An unexpected twist that promises a completely different cinematic experience than the previous one.
Starring once again Joaquin Phoenix, who reprises his role as the legendary Gotham criminal, little is known about the film’s plot. The only thing that is clear is that Arthur Fleck resumes his alterego as joker and that this time he will be accompanied by Harley Quinnplayed by Lady Gaga.
Heading Foley-a-Two refers to a mental disorder in which insanity is transmitted from one person to another. Which suggests that the center of the script will be a twisted romance. Is this mixture suitable? Considering the final scene of the previous film, This will most likely be an experiment worth seeing on the big screen.
Deadpool 3, July 26, 2024

The high-profile vigilante, played by Ryan Reynolds, returns during a difficult time for the superhero genre. In the midst of what appears to be a critical and box office failure, the character is bound to reignite interest in the stories of comic book legends. Something that Marvel Cinematic Universeappears to have been taken into account during the production of the franchise’s only film, which will be released in 2024.
There are all sorts of images floating around the internet showcasing numerous cameos and various appearances by Marvel characters. But the only thing that is clear about this argument is three things. Firstly, Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Logan/Wolverine and will have a major role in the production. Secondly, that the multiverse, time travel and quad bike (Temporary Change Agency) will be important. And finally, this is the first film in the franchise for adults only. House of Ideas.
The bet is ambitious. For now, Marvel is hoping this will be the breath of fresh air its franchise needs. Can tape do this? This is an unanswered question.
Furiosa, May 23, 2024

This is more than a sequel, it’s a prequel. And much more than a continuation of the universe shown in Mad Max: Fury RoadThis spin off one of his characters. But amidst this strange combination, one thing is certain: George Miller is returning to apocalyptic chaos at the hands of an iconic figure. Furious, previously played by Charlize Theron, returns with the intention of delving into her origins.
Now, in Anya Taylor Joy, the accidental leader of the revolution against Immortan Joe, she’s more than just a survivor. Judging by the first frames of the film, she is a warrior who knows how to fight a hostile world that has its own weapons and limits. The most important promise this long-awaited film has to fulfill is.
Extraterrestrial: Romulus, August 14, 2024

Spanish director Federico Alvarez is responsible for bringing the new part of this famous saga to cinemas. It also gave it new impetus after the poor box office and critical reception of Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. The goal he hopes to achieve with a simple formula: create a story independent from the rest of the franchise. And that it is maintained as a journey through its core mythology without being a complete re-imagining.
There’s not a lot of information out there about how Alvarez hopes to achieve something like this. So far, we only know that it will be a story about a group of travelers who cross space and stumble upon a cruel creature. Presumably a xenomorph. Yes again.
Beetlejuice 2, September 6, 2024

The highly anticipated sequel to Tim Burton’s classic film will be released later this year, with the original actors reprising their roles. Of course, with the addition of a few new faces to spice up the story. Among them are Jenna Ortega as the daughter of Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) and Monica Bellucci, who plays the wife of a superghost. Also making their debuts are Willem Dafoe and Justin Theorux, whose roles have yet to be determined.
There’s no official synopsis yet, but everything seems to indicate that the plot will delve deeper into the afterlife and context Beetle juice. All in a fun and satirical return to one of cinema’s most beloved stories. We’ll just have to wait to see if it was worth the wait.
Inside Out 2, June 14, 2024

The mind of Riley, now a teenager, is once again the setting for a classic Pixar story. Directed by Kelsey Mann, the film brings back the anthropomorphic range of emotions that made the studio famous in 2105. Only now they will have to deal with the physical and mental changes of their beloved baby, as well as their first love.
That’s it, with the arrival of new figures in the control room. Happiness (Amy Poehler) Sadness (Phyllis Smith) Fury (Lewis Black) and Disgust (Lisa Lapire) will have to deal with a stranger. Anxiety (Maya Hawke, from Stranger Things), seems to be a new chaotic element amid the rapid rise of one of pop culture’s little girls.
Ghostbusters: Frozen March 29, 2024

This sequel to director Jason Reitman’s nostalgic 2021 hit continues the story of the Spengler family after the events in Oklahoma. As expected, the plot leaves the isolated town where the franchise began and moves back to New York. Judging by the trailer and synopsis, The film will tell about the creation of a completely new team of specialists in supernatural events.
The feature film follows the previous cast, which includes Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon. And also with the original team members, Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd. As for the plot, everything seems to indicate that we are talking about an icy attack on the city, which Ghostbusters, new and old, need to stop.
