Owners of European cars that entered Russia through parallel imports began to encounter software blocks due to manufacturer restrictions, Izvestia reports.

New cars, when serviced by uncertified services, turn into “bricks” and stand like dead stakes in garages. Such injuries come to us.

One of the owners of the 2023 BMW X3, which was not officially sold in Russia, encountered this problem. After connecting the computer’s diagnostic equipment, an error was displayed, and all the icons on the dashboard lit up at once.

The car was taken by tow truck to an official dealer, where I realized that the car was locked because they decided that it had been stolen. I had to reset the car’s firmware and re-set all the parameters using alternative software.

A similar situation occurred with the owner of a BMW X5, who wanted to Russify the car in one of the service centers. Two days after flashing the media system and the dashboard simply stopped turning on. The problem was solved by resetting the firmware to the original version.

Similar problems can also occur on Mercedes-Benz and Renault. This is due to sanctions that, for the title of automakers, disconnect Russian dealers from their software, and non-original equipment may not work correctly with new cars. [Известия]
