In a recent study, scientists examined data from the British Biobank. Based on the results of this analysis, they concluded that behaviors that disrupt circadian rhythms (including shift work) have a negative impact on a person’s blood pressure, regardless of other factors (body mass index, gender, age).
People who work night shifts and sleep less than 5-6 hours are at the greatest risk of developing high blood pressure. At the same time, those who worked a mixed schedule also had high blood pressure. It is also interesting that too much sleep has a negative effect on circadian rhythms.
The optimal sleep duration to maintain normal blood pressure is 7 hours.
