Apple has expanded the sale of installation discs with OS X Lion 10.7 and Mountain Lion 10.8. OS X Lion was released in 2011, and OS X Mountain Lion was released in 2012.
Previous new versions of OS X were paid and sold primarily on disk. OS X Lion was the first brand to be available only through the Mac App Store. But then Apple released disks because it was necessary to set up synchronization for clients who had weak Internet or a computer without access to the Mac App Store.
In 2013, OS X Mavericks was released, which was the first outstanding major update and was never sold on disk.
Apple is discontinuing the latest macOS installation DVDs
Apple has officially stopped selling its latest optical drive installers for older operating systems, including OS X Lion 10.7 and Mountain Lion 10.8.
