Finland will completely close the border with Russia, writes Iltalehti.
Last week, the republic closed four checkpoints on the border with Russia until February 18, 2024. The reason was the increased flow of migrants from Syria, Somalia and other countries.
According to the publication, the country’s cabinet of ministers is considering a total closure of the borders, which could occur on the night of November 22. Government consent is required to make such a decision.
The Finnish Interior Ministry noted that closing only part of the checkpoints solves the problem of the flow of illegal refugees only temporarily.
In November, Finnish authorities banned bicycles from entering Russia. The worsening situation of immigrants was also cited as a reason.
