After the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, Neil Gaiman, Stephen King, JK Rowling and other foreign authors suspended their work with Russian publishers. Penguin Random House Macmillan Publishers, Simon & Schuster and international book wholesaler Gardners also announced they would cease operations.
In 2022, books in Russia have risen in price by 15-20%. The reason for this is the increasing cost of printing materials imported from abroad. According to the RKS, by the end of 2023 the cost of books will increase by 10 to 15% more. In the first quarter of this year, product prices already increased by 5%.
