Apple released iOS 17.1.2 this Thursday (30). Update Fixes vulnerabilities and fixes fatal bugs. The package also comes for iPadOS.
According to the update notes, the update resolves two vulnerabilities in WebKit: CVE-2023-42916 and CVE-2023-42917. Both may have been used against devices with versions older than iOS 16.7.1.
The first of the failures may reveal sensitive data when processing web content. The second one paved the way executing arbitrary code while loading online content.
Apple did not provide detailed information about the bugs fixed in the update, but perhaps these are just minor adjustments that improve the usability of the system.
The package is distributed to all mobile phones compatible with iOS 17. The update should be pushed automatically, but you can run a manual scan by going to: Settings > General > Software Update.
iOS 17.2 is coming
The real news will come in iOS 17.2, which Apple has already prepared. The bundle is expected to deliver outstanding features like personalized playlists in App Journal and Apple Music, and sideloading support may also be introduced in some regions.
In this case, the update is expected to be made in mid-December. Currently, iOS 17.2 is in its fourth Beta for testers only.
