OpenAI is delaying the launch of its GPT Store, a marketplace for custom GPT interfaces, until 2024, although Sam Altman initially talked about a November launch at DevDay.

OpenAI delays GPT store launch until 2024

“As for what’s next, we are currently planning to launch the GPT Store early next year,” OpenAI said in an email to GPT developers, cited by The Verge.

And although company representatives hint that the delay is due to management chaos (“We were hoping to publish it this month, but several unexpected events forced us to do so”), market experts believe this is false.

Techcrunch writes that the industry was frankly surprised that the official announcement of the launch was made in November, when many questions still remained about the functioning of the future platform.

The portal’s correspondents Sam Altman and Mira Murati, on the sidelines of the forum, when asked about the monetization of the project (what fees will be charged to clients, what part will go to the developers) replied: “We’ll see.”

The developers’ reaction to the news was very negative. Two anonymous Gizmodo sources believe OpenAI “lacked clear communication” last month and are disappointed with the company’s stance. Another GPTS developer said that many had not yet received any notification about the delay in the launch of the GPT Store, so they had to find out everything through the news.

The OpenAI developer forum discusses the company’s obligation to notify of delays: “If OpenAI indicates a possible delay, then our programmers will not have to work overtime every day for fear that their GPT will not be ready on the same day release of GPT. store”.
