When we experience stress, various processes occur in the body. Heart rate increases, blood pressure rises, blood vessels dilate, and blood flow to the brain increases. Previous scientific studies have shown that a 1% decrease in vascular function leads to a 13% increase in the risk of cardiovascular disease.

In the new study, researchers also found a decrease in the elasticity of participants’ arteries within 90 minutes after a stressful event ended. Additionally, eating fatty foods had a negative effect on mood during and after the stressful episode. Participants in this trial included healthy people between the ages of 18 and 30.
