In a paradigm shift from traditional metabolomics research, scientists have organically synthesized thousands of molecules and identified their unique “barcodes.” By analyzing publicly available metabolomics data, they identified 145 synthetic bile acids in biological samples, 139 of which were previously unknown.
Research links bile amidates, a class of microbial molecules, to IBD. Elevated levels of some bile amidates in active Crohn’s disease have provided promising avenues for future diagnostic tools. Moreover, experiments have shown that these molecules may contribute to intestinal inflammation by affecting T cell function, paving the way for potential therapeutic interventions.
