In the new study, researchers examined 178 adults aged 35 and over from the UK and US. All this took 21 days. It turns out that there really isn’t an ideal balance between solitude and social time. Additionally, as people spent more time alone, their stress levels decreased. Additionally, a day spent alone was associated with a sense of freedom of choice and the opportunity to be oneself.

It is important to note that the negative effects of loneliness in humans are reduced or eliminated only when spending time alone is a personal choice (rather than dictated by external circumstances). Participants generally did not report feeling lonely when they spent more time alone.
