Soon, Russians will be able to open a business and receive packages by verifying their identities with biometric data. Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Grigorenko emphasized that biometrics could replace a passport or driver’s license in the future. He also noted that successful examples of the use of biometrics already exist, such as logging into Civil Services, electronic signatures and opening bank accounts.

Grigorenko emphasized that plans have been developed to expand the use of biometrics. It will be used to open a business, including a bank account, and to obtain licenses and permits. It is also planned to replace identity documents and driver’s licenses with biometrics by 2024. These changes are being made as part of infrastructure and equipment improvements.

In October, the Gosuslugi portal provided users with the ability to register their biometric data in a simple and convenient way without using a foreign passport. This allows you to access various services such as shopping, travel payments and others that use biometrics to verify your identity. The service will gradually expand and provide more convenience to users.
