Rates of depression and anxiety have decreased in these people, especially those aged 65 and over. Feeling important and appreciated by others can also lead to reduced stress. Less stress in life is known to be associated with a reduced likelihood of heart disease, stroke, depression, anxiety, and a variety of common diseases. Volunteers also have a lower risk of premature death.

Gaining valuable skills, having a goal. Elderly volunteers experience increased self-confidence and life satisfaction.

Establishing new relationships and improving existing ones. One of the best ways to make friends is to do things with other people. A person’s social circle may narrow after retirement, so establishing and expanding social connections is very important for him or her.
