Apple plans to completely update the iPad lineup next year and remove obsolete models from sale, Bloomberg writes.
The company wants to reduce confusion between the iPad Pro and Air by making them even more different from each other. The iPad Pro will be available in 11- and 13-inch screens, while the iPad Air will come in 10.9- and 12.9-inch screens.
Only the iPad Pro will receive an OLED display, an updated design, an M3 processor and a new Magic Keyboard. In making this device, the iPad Pro is a more premium phone.
Apple will release the 11th generation iPad next year and will stop selling the 9th generation iPad with the Home key. The iPad mini will also receive an update, but it will only be aimed at increasing productivity.
The discontinuation of the 9th generation iPad has led to Apple discontinuing the 1st generation Apple Pencil with a Lightning port. Thus, only two Apple Pencils were on sale.
There are no plans to reduce the lineup to Pro and Air because Apple needs a budget model to sell to schools and universities. The iPad mini is also suffering from sales, as some buyers still prefer smaller tablets despite the availability of larger iPhones. [Bloomberg]
