iOS 17.2 was made available to all users this Monday (11). The second major update to this version of Apple’s system includes a number of new features, including the introduction of the Diary app, support for spatial video on the iPhone 15 Pro, features in the Weather app, and overall improvements to the experience.
All new features of iOS 17.2
1. New Diary app
The main new feature for most users is Diary. The app aims to be almost like a personal diary, where you keep your notes, photos, videos, and other journal entries to remember later.
You can save reminders, texts, exercises, and other daily activities in it, and set alarms to remind yourself to journal. Once you’ve checked everything out, you can filter results by favorite entries, days when attachments were available, and more.
Recordings sync with iCloud, allowing access from any compatible device. Additionally, your personal diary can be locked with Touch ID or Face ID, ensuring privacy even if someone accesses your mobile phone.
2. More functions for Action Button
Another shortcut option has been added to the Action Button on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max: translation. Now owners of high-end mobile phones can set the add-on to quickly translate sentences and chat with a person in another language.
3. What’s new in iMessage
Apple’s iMessage also received improvements in iOS 17.2: Messenger now lets you quickly jump to the first unread message in a conversation, includes the ability to add stickers directly to the conversation bubble, and offers more customization options for Memojis.
4. What’s new in the Weather app
The Weather app now shows rainfall amounts, includes new widgets for the home screen, and offers a map to check wind patterns for the next 24 hours. Finally, there is also a lunar calendar to view the phases of the moon on any day until the next month.
5. Support for spatial videos
Space videos have finally arrived on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. The format uses two rear cameras to record with a three-dimensional effect (only visible on Apple Vision Pro).
